What follows is not to be understood as an exhaustive inventory of all Kierkegaard’s narratives that are potentially classifiable as parables, but a critical selection of his parables and stories that demonstrates the range and pervasiveness of parabolic communication throughout his entire literary effort. All Danish references, unless otherwise noted, are to the Samlede Værker, 3rd edition, edited by A. B. Drachmann, J. L. Heiberg and H. O. Lange, revised by Peter P.
