This monograph constitutes Volume LXXVIII of the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum (Italia) and Fascicle VIII of the Naples National Archaeological Museum, dedicated specifically to the Spinelli Collection. Author Mariarosaria Borriello catalogizes eighty-four Attic red-figure ceramic vessels preserved in the museum, tracing their provenance from the nineteenth-century excavations at the ancient site of Suessula. Through archival re-examinations, the study reconstructs the historical dispersal of the original assemblage, detailing high-profile transfers to foreign institutions—most notably American museums—as well as losses incurred during wartime occupations. The cataloged inventory primarily spans the second quarter of the fifth to the early fourth century BCE, featuring signature works by prominent Attic craftsmen such as the Geras Painter, Providence Painter, and Achilles Painter. The text contextualizes these vessels within broader distribution patterns across pre-Roman Campania, addressing issues of typology, stylistic attribution, iconographical themes, and the methodological challenges posed by the loss of original funerary context documentation.
