While AI makes it easier than ever to discover new perspectives, if harnessed without proper human oversight, there is a risk of AI bias and promotion of dominant worldviews. We commit to working hard to counteract this possibility and to ensure that AI is used to promote an environment that encourages diverse perspectives and critical thinking.

In line with our company mission, we are committed to making our AI-powered features as inclusive and accessible as possible to all learners, irrespective of their background, location, or learning capabilities. We will always be conscious of the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of our users.

We will be responsible gatekeepers of any learner data used to power AI features on Perlego, ensuring robust data governance, never selling personal data to third parties, and never allowing this data to be used for training public large language models (LLMs).

As a key pillar of our business, we have the utmost respect for the intellectual property of our publishing partners. We recognise that the content provided to us is the result of significant investment, expertise, and research on the part of both the publishers and authors.

We commit to all our publishing partners that we will never allow their content and intellectual property to be used to train publicly available AI models. Their content will only ever be used within the secure confines of our platform, solely for the purpose of enhancing the learning experience of our users.

Our goal has always been to build strong, collaborative relationships with forward-thinking publishers. We believe that by working together, we can explore new opportunities for AI to broaden the reach and impact of their content. We not only welcome but actively encourage input and feedback from publishers.

We always aim to surface the most relevant content from publishers directly to the user. This goes beyond merely increasing reading engagement. Artificial intelligence now paves the way for innovative new content discovery journeys and widens the opportunity to match learners with the content they need. With this in mind, our goal will be to drive a more personalised and effective learning and research experience, benefiting our publisher partners.

We recognise and share the concern that over-adoption of AI systems could have on both academic agency and the broader perceived role of academics in higher education. Any tools that we develop should not overshadow or diminish the role of educators. Instead, they should be designed to aid and support them, enhancing the learning experience for students.

We will not build AI tools for AI tools' sake. Any introduction of AI on Perlego will be to enhance the core experiences in teaching and learning.

As with any of our products, we will not build in isolation. We will work with partners from across the education domain to ensure that we are building AI tools that create value for both educator and student.
