About this book

Aufklärer und Illuministen erheben im 18. Jahrhundert gleichermaßen den Anspruch, auf der Seite des Lichts der Erkenntnis zu stehen. Aber wo die illuministischen Esoteriker sich dazu auf einen theosophisch begründeten Geistbegriff berufen, verkünden die Aufklärer den Anspruch einer natürlichen Vernunft. Ziel der Studie ist, zunächst im Rahmen einer diskursarchäologischen Untersuchung den Anteil beider Seiten an der Episteme ihrer Epoche herauszuarbeiten und nach der epochenspezifischen, Vernünftigkeit ihrer Diskussionsbeitrage zu fragen. Der zweite Teil wechselt sodann von der synchronischen zu einer diachronischen Perspektive und zeigt das Entstehen einer neuen Konstellation um 1800, zu deren Herausbildung Aufklärer wie Diderot ond theosophische Mystiker wie Saint- Martin aus ihren gegensätzlichen Positionen gleichermaßen beitragen haben.
