Autonomes Lernen im Fremdsprachenunterricht wird in dieser Studie aus einer interaktionalen Sicht betrachtet. Das bisher meist individualistische Autonomieverständnis wird somit um die soziale Perspektive erweitert. Anhand von Gruppenentscheidungsprozessen wird aufgezeigt, innerhalb welcher Interaktions- und Partizipationsformen sich Gruppenautonomie entfaltet. Die Untersuchung erfolgte im Rahmen eines Handyvideoprojekts mit mexikanischen Deutsch-als-Fremdsprache-Lernenden. Aus den Ergebnissen lässt sich ableiten, wie Aushandlung und Mitbestimmung in Gruppen- und Projektarbeit zur Gruppenautonomie beitragen kann.
