Nach dem offiziellen Ende der Blockkonfrontation mutierte die NATO von einem – zumindest formal – auf die Landesverteidigung ausgerichteten Militärbündnis zu einem globalen Kriegsakteur. Beim Versuch, das weltweite Gewaltmonopol an sich zu reißen, hinterließ sie in zahlreichen Ländern eine blutige Spur aus Chaos und Zerstörung. Parallel dazu ging sie auf einen antirussischen Expansionskurs, um so die westliche Vorherrschaft auf Dauer zu zementieren. Spätestens seit der Ukraine-Krise ist das belastete westlich-russische Verhältnis in einem Ausmaß eskaliert, dass es nicht mehr übertrieben scheint, von einem neuen Kalten Krieg zu sprechen. Die NATO reagiert hierauf mit einer massiven Aufrüstung ihrer Ostflanke, verfolgt aber auch in anderen Regionen eine aggressive antirussische Politik.
