Le conte des fées francais présente une contribution significative et innovatrice à la recherche sur les contes de fées littéraires de l´Europe prémoderne. Apportant des clarifications importantes concernant l´histoire de l´institutionnalisation du conte de fées, il remet d´une part celui-ci dans le contexte socio-historique de la littérature féminine et aristocratique, tout en explorant de manière approfondie l´influence trop négligée des conteurs italiens dans la création du corpus francais. D´autre part, il démontre le role fondamental de la littérature dans l´élaboration du conte de fées folklorique des XIXe et XX siècles, grace à une analyse comparative de certains contes-types européens des plus populaires.
