Die Runeninschriften gehören zu den frühesten Zeugnissen der festlandskandinavischen Sprachen und ihrer Literatur. Ein nicht geringer Anteil dieser Inschriften ist in den meisten Fällen teilweise in poetischer Sprache verfasst. Der vorliegende Band bietet eine komplette Zusammenstellung der skandinavischen Runeninschriften mit poetischer sprachlicher Gestaltung. Insgesamt werden 159 Inschriften aus den drei hauptsächlichen Perioden runischer Überlieferung behandelt: der urnordischen Zeit, der Wikingerzeit und des frühen nordischen Mittelalters. Die Inschriften werden mit Angaben zu ihrer Materialität, Forschungsgeschichte und aktuellen philologisch-linguistischen Interpretation präsentiert und unter dem Gesichtspunkt ihrer metrischen Gestaltung analysiert. Der Edition ist eine ausführliche zusammenfassende Einführung vorangestellt.Hans-Peter Naumann ist emeritierter Ordinarius für Nordische Philologie an der Universität Zürich.
