Sind es "moderne" Männer, die sich bewusst vom traditionellen Männlichkeitsideal abwenden und nach neuen Modellen suchen?Soziale Arbeit gilt aus zwei Grßnden als typisch weibliche Profession: Sie basiert historisch auf den Ideen von Fßrsorge und geistiger Mßtterlichkeit und der ßberwiegende Teil der Studierenden des Fachs sind immer noch Frauen.In dieser qualitativen Studie geht die Autorin der Frage nach, welche Selbst- und Rollenverständnisse Männer in diesem Berufsfeld haben und wie sie im studentischen und später im beruflichen Alltag ihre Männlichkeit herstellen. Dafßr wurden Gruppendiskussionen von Männern zu vier unterschiedlichen Zeitpunkten ihrer Berufsbiografie aufgezeichnet, analysiert und interpretiert: am Beginn und am Ende des Studiums, kurz nach dem Einstieg in den Beruf und nach langjähriger Berufstätigkeit.
