Diese Publikation zur Erforschung der historischen Entwicklung einer "Wissenschaft Soziale Arbeit" am Beispiel des in Vergessenheit geratenen (Armenpflege)Konzeptes "De subventione pauperum" (1526) des spanischen Humanisten, VoraufklĂ€rers, EuropĂ€ers und Sozialreformers jĂŒdischer Herkunft, Juan Luis Vives (1492-1540), möchte eine LĂŒcke schlieĂen. Vives war Vertreter einer dramatischen Ăbergangsepoche vom Mittelalter zur frĂŒhen Neuzeit. Hier ergeben sich vergleichbare schwierige Herausforderungen, wie sie Ăbergangszeiten immer charakterisieren, und wie wir sie auch heute unter dem Umbau des Sozialstaates (wieder) zu bewĂ€ltigen haben.Die frĂŒhneuzeitliche Armenpflege war gekennzeichnet durch eine Form der "Sozialdisziplinierung", die durch "Individualisierung", "Kommunalisierung", "PĂ€dagogisierung" und "BĂŒrokratisierung" die Masse entwurzelter Menschen zu grundlegenden VerhaltensverĂ€nderungen und Anpassungen zu bringen suchte. Dies bedeutet(e) bis in die heutige Zeit hinein fĂŒr EmpfĂ€nger öffentlicher Leistungen, sich rechtfertigen zu mĂŒssen, warum sie diese Leistungen beanspruch(t)en. Vives hat auf dem Fundament der abendlĂ€ndisch jĂŒdisch-christlichen Gerechtigkeits- und Verpflichtungsethik eine kritische Gesellschaftsanalyse seiner Epoche vorgenommen. Der historische Rahmen seiner anrĂŒhrenden Biographie im Schatten der Inquisition und die sozialpolitische Konzeption dieses Humanisten stehen im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung.
