Wir alle sind an unsere Bibel gewöhnt: Altes und Neues Testament. Die Frage scheint erstaunlich, ob das Alte Testament überhaupt in die christliche Bibel gehört oder nicht. Im frühen Christentum war sie äußerst umstritten. Die innerkirchlichen Widerstände gegen die Aufnahme des Alten Testaments waren nicht unerheblich. Heute wissen wir, wie die Entscheidung ausgefallen ist. Unproblematisch war sie indes nie. Man hatte schließlich nicht nur die Gegner in den eigenen Reihen zu überwinden, man begab sich mit diesem Schritt auch in einen ständigen Konfl ikt mit den Juden. Denn selbstverständlich konnten die jüdischen Schriften – die erst später von der Kirche den Namen 'Altes Testament' erhielten – nicht von einer anderen Religionsgemeinschaft übernommen werden, ohne sie entsprechend umzuinterpretieren. Diese christliche 'Eroberung' des Alten Testaments war eine entscheidende Weichenstellung auf dem Weg zu einer Jahrhunderte währenden Judenfeindlichkeit innerhalb der Kirche.
