Es richtet sich an sachkundige Planer, Sachverständige und Denkmalpfleger sowie an angehende Bauingenieure und dient als ausführliche Arbeitsgrundlage für die Untersuchung und die Erfassung des Ist-Zustandes vorhandener Holzkonstruktionen.Aufgenommen sind Prüfverfahren und Prüfgeräte, bei denen der mess- und gerätetechnische Aufwand überschaubar bleibt und deren erfolgreicher Einsatz nicht dem hoch spezialisierten Gutachter vorbehalten ist. Besonderer Wert wurde darauf gelegt, den richtigen Umgang mit den Prüfverfahren zu beschreiben und Tipps für die einwandfreie Durchführung vor Ort zu geben. Das Buch enthält auch Vorschläge für den Aufbau entsprechender Messprotokolle.
