Am Abend des 9.November 1989 kündigte das Mitglied des SED-Politbüros Günter Schabowski die anstehende Öffnung der Mauer an. Auf die Nachfrage, wann dies vonstatten gehen solle, antwortete der überforderte Schabowski, dass die Öffnung der Grenze "unverzüglich" erfolgen werde. Die Folgen sind bekannt. Vielfach in Vergessenheit geraten ist hingegen die Vorgeschichte. Ausgehend vom schleichenden Machtverlust der kommunistischen Parteien des Ostblocks, begannen auch die Bürger der DDR, die Frage nach der Legitimation der Macht zu stellen. Das vorliegende eBook zeichnet die Stationen des Zerfalls der DDR, vom "paneuropäischen Picknick" im ungarischen Sopron bis zur Entmachtung Honeckers und der Öffnung der Grenze nach.
