Wagemutig und ausdauernd, anpassungsfähig und widerständig setzten diese Frauen Initiativen beim Aufbau von SOS-Kinderdörfern weltweit, in der Mittelbeschaffung, in der Werbung, bei der Schulung von Kinderdorfmüttern, in der pädagogischen Ausrichtung und in der sozialpädagogischen Arbeit mit Kindern und Jugendlichen.Über den biografischen Zugang hinaus bietet der Band einen unmittelbaren Einblick in den Alltag und die Entwicklung von SOS-Kinderdorf von den 1940er bis in die 1960er Jahre. Die einzelnen Biografien werden zudem verwoben mit gesellschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen, zeitgeschichtlichen Ereignissen und Lebenswelten von Frauen.
