Die Auswirkungen von Online-Kommunikation auf die Politik wurde in den letzten Jahren intensiv diskutiert. Die vorliegende Untersuchung setzt sich zum Ziel, diese Debatte mit aktuellen, breiten und empirischen Daten zu unterfüttern. Im Zentrum stehen die folgenden Fragen: Wie schätzen politische Interessengruppen in der Schweiz die Bedeutung von Online-Kommunikation ein? Welche Instrumente setzen sie ein - und welche organisationsinternen und -externen Faktoren determinieren den Einsatz? Und wie reagieren politische Interessengruppen auf die neu verfügbaren Möglichkeiten des Internets und wie integrieren sie diese in ihre bestehenden organisationalen Strukturen?Die Beantwortung dieser Fragen wird in einem ersten Schritt mittels einer quantitativen Online-Befragung unter 875 Organisationen, die in der Schweiz politisch aktiv sind, angestrebt. Vertiefend werden mit ausgewählten politischen Interessengruppen teilstandardisierte Leitfadeninterviews geführt, bei denen insbesondere die Veränderung der organisationalen Strukturen im Zentrum stehen.Die Resultate zeigen, dass vor allem die "älteren" Instrumente der Online-Kommunikation, wie bspw. Websites oder Newsletter, relativ breit verwendet werden, während sich die befragten Interessengruppen beim Einsatz von "neueren" Instrumenten, wie bspw. Social Media, eher noch zurückhaltend zeigen. Während die Einschätzung der Bedeutung nicht von den finanziellen Ressourcen einer Organisation abhängt, zeigt sich beim Einsatz: Je mehr Geld eine Organisation zur Verfügung hat, desto vielfältiger ist auch das Repertoire an Instrumenten der Online-Kommunikation, die eine politische Interessengruppe in der Schweiz einsetzt.
