Die Digitalisierung von Literatur ist bezogen auf den momentanen Wandel der Buchbranche eines der meistdiskutierten Stichworte. E-Books haben in den letzten Jahren an Bedeutung gewonnen und sind vom heutigen Buchmarkt nicht mehr wegzudenken. Bei der rasanten Entwicklung und Etablierung von digitaler Literatur darf auch deren Untersuchung nicht zu kurz kommen. Vorher nur gedruckt und somit analog vorhandene Literatur wird im Rahmen der Digitalisierung in eine neue Form gewandelt, die einige Unterschiede, beispielsweise in Gestaltung, aufweist. Diese Unterschiede lassen die Frage stellen, ob E-Books generell der Medienform Buch angehörig sind oder eine eigene Medienform bilden. Hierbei ist auffällig, dass ein Unterschied zwischen klassischen E-Books und enhanced E-Books besteht. Während unter klassischen E-Books die Umwandlung von analoger Literatur in digitale verstanden wird, charakterisiert die Multimedialität enhanced E-Books. Diese sind durch Audio, - Film- und Animationsanteile bereichert und verlangen somit eine andere Form der Rezeption.
