Ausländerrecht ist nicht nur das geschriebene nationale Recht, sondern auch Unionsrecht, Völkerrecht und internationale Rechtsprechung. Der Vereinfachung sind daher Grenzen gesetzt. Den Rechtsanwendern wird daher in der Praxis des Ausländerrechts ein hohes Maß an juristischer Fachkenntnis abverlangt. Fallbeispiele und Schemata sollen das Verständnis und die Anwendung dieser komplizierten Rechtslage erleichtern.
