Die Autorin stellt ein von ihr untersuchtes, durch westeuropäische Entwicklungsgelder finanziertes nigerianisches Dorfentwicklungsprojekt vor und gibt einen aufschlussreichen Einblick in das Spannungsfeld zwischen der religiösen Prägung der Institutionen und Akteure vor Ort und der säkularen Prägung der westlichen Geldgeber. Den hermeneutischen Schlüssel für das Verständnis dieses Spannungsfeldes findet sie in Charles Taylors entstehungsgeschichtlichen Analysen der säkularen westlichen Moderne (besseres Fremdverstehen durch besseres Eigenverstehen).
