In 14 Lektionen, die der Wochenzahl eines Semesters entsprechen, führt der Grundkurs in Grundbegriffe und Methoden philosophischer und theologischer Ethik ein. Deshalb wird jede Lektion mit einer Übung zur praxisbezogenen Vertiefung des Gelernten abgeschlossen. Breiten Raum nimmt die Einführung in das heutige philosophisch-ethische Denken sowie in die Beziehung und Abgrenzung zwischen philosophischer und theologischer Ethik ein. Für die zweite Auflage wurde der Grundkurs Ethik umfassend überarbeitet und bei einigen Themen vertieft und ergänzt. Das betrifft etwa die Bedeutung ethischer Standards angesichts des weltanschaulichen Pluralismus, das Problem des ethischen Naturalismus, das Verhältnis von Ethik und Spiritualität oder das Verständnis der Menschenwürde.
