Die vorliegende Arbeit ist die kirchenhistorische Aufarbeitung der Geschichte der "Calama-Gruppe", einer befreiungstheologisch inspirierten, international agierenden Projektgruppe von Arbeiterpriestern (bzw. Arbeitergeschwistern), die sich in der Rezeption des II. Vatikanischen Konzils (1962-1965) sowie der Beschlüsse der II. Generalversammlung von Medellín (1968) auf die experimentelle Suche nach neuen pastoralen und ekklesiologischen Formen unter der Prämisse der Option für die Armen machte. Dabei entwarf sie eine Methode, wie ein "Ortswechsel" der Kirche an die Seite der gesellschaftlich Marginalisierten gelingen sollte. Die Calama-Gruppe ist verortet in den historischen Kontext der nachkonziliaren Aufbruchstimmung und Experimentierfreudigkeit und damit auch Ausdruck der Pluralisierung innerhalb des Katholizismus.
