Die Erforschung der Geschichte des Sozialen Protestantismus im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert ist in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten insbesondere mit dem Namen Jochen-Christoph Kaiser verbunden. In dieser Zeit hat er wesentlich dazu beigetragen, dass die Diakonieforschung in neuer Blßte steht. Die hier versammelten Beiträge stellen einen Querschnitt durch seine diakoniehistorischen Arbeiten dar und bilden zugleich eine "kleine" Geschichte der Diakonie im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Dabei wird der Bogen von den Anfängen im 19. Jahrhundert ßber die Grßndung des Central-Ausschusses fßr Innere Mission (1848/49), die Weimarer Republik und den Nationalsozialismus bis zu den Entwicklungen der Diakonie nach 1945 gespannt.
