About this book
Die Evangelische Kirche fand auf die Soziale Frage des 19. Jahrhunderts keine hinreichende Antwort. Dies führte zu einer tiefen Entfremdung von der Arbeiterschaft und hatte lange nachwirkende Folgen für die volkskirchliche Verfasstheit. Zwar näherten sich Kirche und gewerkschaftlich organisierte Arbeiter durch die gemeinsame Erfahrung der Verfolgung im Nationalsozialismus wieder an. Doch Studien seit den 1970er Jahren kamen zu dem Ergebnis, dass Arbeiter zu wenig in das kirchliche Leben eingebunden seien. Die Evangelische Kirche galt vielen als Kirche des Mittelstandes und des akademischen Bürgertums.Wie steht es heute um das Verhältnis von Kirche und Arbeiterschaft unter grundlegend veränderten gesellschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen? Auf diese Frage will der vorliegende Band anhand neuerer empirischer Studien Antwort geben.
