Seit dem Erscheinen der 4. Auflage im Jahr 2005 haben drei selbstständige Novellierungen des Baugesetzbuchs stattgefunden: die Novelle 2006 zur Erleichterung von Planungsvorhaben für die Innenentwicklung der Städte mit Geltung ab 1.1.2007, die Novelle 2011 durch das Gesetz zur Förderung des Klimaschutzes bei der Entwicklung in den Städten und Gemeinden mit Geltung ab 30.7.2011 und die Novelle 2013 zur Förderung der Innenentwicklung in den Städten und Gemeinden und weiteren Fortentwicklung des Städtebaurechts, überwiegend mit Geltung ab dem 20.9.2013. Die hieraus erwachsenen Änderungen und Ergänzungen werden in der Neuauflage zusammen mit weiteren Neuerungen einzelner Paragraphen durch andere Gesetze aufgearbeitet und durch eine Einführung in die Grundzüge des Öffentlichen Rechts ergänzt. Neueste Rechtsprechung und Literatur sind eingearbeitet.Das Handbuch stellt sämtliche Instrumente des Baugesetzbuchs vor. Es wendet sich gleichermaßen an Baurechtsspezialisten wie auch an Nicht-Juristen.
