L'inadeguatezza del moralismo e le illusioni del permissivismo inducono a riconsiderare il significato profondo della responsabilità educativa. Nella complessità dei rapporti di relazione, a ciascuno di noi è chiesto di orientarsi in modo intenzionale alla "vita buona" con e per l'altro per costruire "istituzioni giuste". E' peculiare dell'azione pedagogica anticipare e promuovere la disponibilità intersoggettiva all'impegno formativo. Impegno e promessa cui l'educando può consentire o meno, nei quali anche l'educatore può "mancare". Promessa che chiama ad interrogarsi sul mistero della persona umana, col suo desiderio d'essere amata e al tempo stesso con la sua capacità di fallire l'esistenza. La consapevolezza e la disponibilità affettiva possono riconciliare la forza del desiderio con l'esigenza della norma? Si può persuadere a volere il bene? La tensione etico-morale attraversa la progettazione pedagogica, alla quale spetta il compito di porsi in ascolto dell'esperienza, cosÏ com'è, e di interpretarla.
