Inevitabilmente l'adozione di un simile intento ha condotto a considerare un sempre più vasto numero di problematiche, in ossequio alla fondamentale tesi piagetiana decisamente avversa ad una concezione locale e parziale della conoscenza, e che per questo non poteva né doveva essere una feyerabendiana "consolazione" per lo specialista. Da qui la progressiva adozione di un approccio globale alle problematiche dello sviluppo cognitivo, che proprio per la sua natura deve correlare, in modo dialettico piuttosto che sistemico, le componenti essenziali (biologica, sociale, ambientale), che costituiscono questi studi. Il presente lavoro è da intendersi come appartenente alle scienze dell'uomo che, grazie alla definizione data, devono andare oltre la oramai canonica e stantia suddivisione delle discipline, per spingersi in ambiti solo ideologicamente ritenuti tra loro separati ed incommensurabili. Da qui la necessità di riprendere un legame con la filosofia, che fornisce problemi epistemologici di capitale importanza e demanda la loro discussione e soluzione a discipline specifiche, senza mai scinderle l'una dall'altra.
