Chi educa utilizza il potere che ha per dare potere al soggetto educativo dotandolo della capacità di compiere volontariamente e moralmente le sue azioni. Esercita un'autorità funzionale contrassegnandola come emancipativa e per questo destinandola ad accompagnare la coscienza dell'e- ducando a destarsi e formarsi nonché ad assicurargli le possibilità e le condizioni idonee a costruirsi come personalità governata dal principio-guida della singolarità, in modo da evitare i pericoli dell'eterodirezione e della copionalità, dell'intruppamento gregario e dell'omologazione, e da caratterizzare secondo originalità, autonomia e responsabilità il proprio essere, pensare, sentire, decidere, conoscere, apprendere, convivere, agire. Alla base dell'intero discorso sta il convincimento che l'educazione si serve del potere per conseguire il fne dell'umanizzazione della persona. Se l'autorità è il principio che regola il potere, questo è il dispositivo che consente all'autorità di esplicitarsi e di raggiungere la meta che si è prefissa. Senza autorità non può esserci vera ed effcace relazione educativa.
