Ad essere autenticamente cristiano, spiega Amadei, è "l'uomo che ha la gioia di sentirsi felice perché povero, afflitto, perseguitato". Ma il cristiano sperimenta tale gioia non perché "povero" in quanto tale, ma perché segue Gesù povero e cioè perché, in lui, Gesù ripresenta la sua povertà.
Mentre l'uomo dell'Antico testamento doveva obbedire ai dieci comandamenti, l'uomo del Nuovo testamento è chiamato alla sequela di Gesù è cioè chiamato a vivere le otto beatitudini che sono il nucleo essenziale dell'annuncio evangelico.
