Il volume intende discutere lo sviluppo del pensiero di Carnap, dalla sua adesione al primo neopositivismo fino alla sua concezione piĂš matura, qui identificata nel saggio Empiricism, Semantics and Ontology. Si vuole evidenziare, all'interno dei suoi studi di logica, di semantica e di logica induttiva, le implicazioni filosofiche che ne costituiscono la struttura portante, e le tensioni conflittuali che hanno caratterizzato i vari momenti della riflessione carnapiana.
In appendice, viene proposto, nella traduzione di Ernesto Palombi arricchita da un puntuale commento, l'articolo di Carnap, Ăber Protokollsätze, finora non tradotto in italiano. L'articolo rappresenta un momento storicamente importante sia nello sviluppo del pensiero di Carnap, sia nella discussione epistemologica generale. Maria Grazia Sandrini, professore associato di Filosofia Teoretica presso l'UniversitĂ di Firenze, ha dedicato la sua ricerca a due tematiche principali: quella della probabilitĂ e della metodologia induttiva e quella del rapporto tra scienza ed etica. In entrambe, che si intersecano in piĂš di un punto, appare di grande rilievo l'opera di R. Carnap. Ernesto Palombi è stato ricercatore e professore aggregato di Filosofia Teoretica presso l'UniversitĂ di Firenze. Si è dedicato in particolare allo studio del neopositivismo e della filosofia della conoscenza in Kant.
