In occasione del 160º Anniversario di vita del Pio Istituto dei Sordi di Milano, il Consiglio di Amministrazione della Fondazione ha ritenuto doveroso e giusto fare memoria della figura di Don Giulio Tarra che, nominato Direttore immediatamente dopo la costituzione dell'Ente, dedicò tutta la propria vita al Pio Istituto ed all'istruzione dei sordomuti, divenendo esponente di spicco in questa disciplina a livello internazionale.
Questo libro ci consente di rivivere, in modo completo e di facile lettura, le vicende relative alla storia del Pio Istituto dei Sordi di Milano, che si intrecciano in modo inscindibile con l'avventura umana, scientifica e spirituale di Don Giulio Tarra.
Vi si trova infatti uno spaccato significativo della vita e dell'esperienza di Don Giulio Tarra quale Rettore dell'Istituzione e l'indicazione precisa del cammino da Lui percorso per realizzare la Sua grande intuizione: l'improrogabile esigenza di far emergere nei sordi l'Autonomia del loro modo di esprimersi tramite la lingua orale, abbandonando il metodo mimico-gestuale.
Raccogliendo questa preziosa eredità di Don Giulio Tarra, il Pio Istituto dei Sordi intende procedere nella direzione da Lui indicata, in quanto ritiene questo metodo l'unico che veramente renda libero il sordo da ogni "condizionamento".
