In questo secondo ebook di un classico degli studi sull'impresa in Italia si propone l'analisi della trasformazione del rapporto tra rappresentanza territoriale e poteri situazionali di fatto (che si definisce poliarchia), indotta dalla grande impresa e, in primo, luogo dai gruppi di impresa corporati. Per sostenere empiricamente tale approccio teorico, si propongono una serie di analisi che vanno dall'esplicitarsi storico della responsabilità di impresa, al rapporto tra economia e politica (attraverso la disamina delle lobby parlamentari) alla formazione storica del rapporto proprietario in una delle grandi imprese austro-ungariche come la triestina Riunione Adriatica di Sicurtà.
