La cultura visuale contemporanea è interessata a uno studio contestuale delle immagini, dei media che le producono e riproducono e degli sguardi che su di esse si posano. In quest'ottica, il presente saggio procede a uno studio comparato di discorso letterario e visuale, cercando di individuare le profonde trasformazioni che immagini, dispositivi e sguardi hanno prodottto sulla scrittura letteraria, sia dal punto di vista tematologico sia da quello formale. Lo studio delle trasformazioni e delle sovrapposizioni dei regimi scopici dal XVIII al XX secolo si rivela così uno strumento ermeneutico indispensabile per comprendere la letteratura nel contesto più ampio della comunicazione artistica.
