About This Book
From LAIKA, the Academy AwardÂŽ-nominated studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, comes a new adventure set in a mythical ancient Japan. In Kubo and the Two Strings, scruffy, kind-hearted Kubo cares devotedly for his mother while eking out a humble living in their sleepy shoreside village. But when a spirit from the past appears, Kubo suddenly finds himself entwined in a violent struggle against gods and monsters. This fully illustrated book offers a behind-the-scenes view of the amazingly detailed artwork and unique stop-motion animation style involved in the film's creation.

IN THE BEGINNING
Kuboâs story begins with his mother travelling across the ocean with her infant son, escaping the wrath of her father, the Moon King.
KUBO
The hero of the story, Kubo, is a scrappy and kind-hearted teenage boy. He wears the kimono of his deceased father with the familyâs beetle crest emblazoned on the back. The finely-patterned silk is folded and tucked to fit his smaller frame. At his side he carries his motherâs shamisen, a three-stringed instrument imbued with magical powers. The patch over his left eye is a reminder to him and the world of his troubled past, which soon threatens to catch up to him.
