Band 4 der Zweiten Abteilung der MEGA besteht aus drei Teilen und enthält Manuskripte zu allen drei theoretischen Büchern des "Kapitals" aus den Jahren 1863 bis 1867/68. Der hier in 2., unveränderter Auflage vorgelegte Nachdruck der Ausgabe von 1988 des ersten Teilbandes enthält Manuskripte der Jahre 1863 bis 1866: 1. das sechste Kapitel "Resultate des unmittelbaren Productionsprocesses", das in die Druckvorlage des konzeptionell veränderten ersten Buches zu übernehmen, Marx 1866 nicht mehr passend erschien, sowie ebenso verworfene Einzelseiten von 1863/64 und erst 1866 geschriebene Noten zum ersten Buch; 2. den in der ersten Hälfte des Jahres 1865 abgefassten, allerdings nicht vollendeten Entwurf zum zweiten Buch "Der Cirkulationsprozeß des Kapitals", 3. den von Marx im Juni 1865 im Generalrat der Internationalen Arbeiter-Assoziation gehaltenen Vortrag über "Value, price and profit", der gemeinhin als Vorankündigung des "Kapitals" gilt.
