In dem Band werden die Grundlagen der Wahrnehmungstätigkeit der Gesellschaft für musikalisches Aufführungs- und mechanisches Vervielfältigungsrecht - GEMA umfassend dargestellt, fachkundig erläutert und wissenschaftlich durchdrungen. Dabei geht es vor allem um die Darstellung und Erläuterung der "Binnenregeln" der GEMA: der Satzung, des Berechtigungsvertrags und des Verteilungsplans. Zudem wird eine Übersicht über die Praxis der Lizenzierung gegeben. Schwerpunkt der Darstellung bildet der Kommentarteil, in dem die Satzung als Grundlage der Organisation, der Berechtigungsvertrag als Grundlage der Rechteübertragung und der Verteilungsplan eingehend dargestellt und wissenschaftlich erörtert werden.
Die Neuauflage bringt das Buch auf den neuesten Stand: Der "Zweite Korb" ist ebenso berücksichtigt wie neuere Rechtsprechung und die jüngsten Änderungen von Berechtigungsvertrag und Verteilungsplan der GEMA.
