Die Formung neuer Menschen war ein wichtiges Ziel der politischen Massenbewegungen und Regime im frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Dies gilt auch für den spanischen Katholizismus. Till Kössler verfolgt die widersprüchliche Dynamik katholischer Gesellschaftspolitik im Spannungsfeld von Demokratie und totalitärer Diktatur und fragt nach ihrem Wechselspiel mit der urbanen Gesellschaft und Kultur Madrids.
