Er war Partner der internationalen Anwaltssozietät Shearman & Sterling in Frankfurt und New York. Michael Gruson war mit seiner internationalen bank- und kapitalmarktrechtlichen Praxis ein früher Wegbereiter für die heute allgemein anerkannte Strategie einer global tätigen Anwaltskanzlei. Als Gastprofessor der University of Illinois, der Columbia University School of Law, der Universität Osnabrück und der Bucerius Law School in Hamburg hat sich Michael Gruson stets auch für angehende Juristen und ihre Ausbildung engagiert.
