Auf der Ebene der Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik haben die Quellenstudien der letzten Jahre keine zufriedenstellende Klarheit über die deutschlandpolitischen Absichten der UdSSR nach 1945 gebracht. Deutlicher lassen sich die Ziele und Kalküle aus dem Agieren sowjetischer Vertreter in der SBZ/DDR ablesen. Hier ist es die Agrarpolitik, die daraufhin untersucht wird, inwieweit sie Sowjetisierungsabsichten verfolgte und mit welchen Problemen sich sowjetisch gelenkte Gesellschaftspolitik im Osten Deutschlands auseinandersetzen musste. Im Detail werden zentrale Entscheidungen der Jahre 1949 bis 1953 rekonstruiert. Die Untersuchung ist damit ein Beitrag zur Wirtschafts- und zur Herrschaftsgeschichte der frühen DDR zugleich, der auch Einblicke in die Vor- und Nachgeschichte des 17. Juni 1953 gewährt. Dem Buch ist eine CD-ROM mit Dokumenten zur agrarpolitischen Kooperation SED-Sowjetische Kontrollkommission beigelegt.
