Den Kern des Buches bilden 1. die Darstellung stilbildender Verfahren und verschieden komplexer stilistischer Handlungsmuster, 2. die ausführliche Beschreibung der Relevanz globaler Textmerkmale für Stil und 3. die exemplarische Darlegung der Bedeutsamkeit von Textmustern (Textsorten) für Stil. Stil wird anhand von verschiedenartigen Beispielen in seiner Vielfalt beschrieben: sowohl als typisiert als auch als individuell bzw. originell. Die Ergebnisse sind auch für das Verfertigen von Texten nutzbar. Grundlage ist ein weiter Stilbegriff, der Bild, Typografie, Farbe u. a. mit einbezieht. Die Theorie-Basis bildet die Handlungs-Stilistik, angereichert um Aspekte kognitiver und konversationsanalytischer Stilistik.
