About this book

Federico Ozanam (1813-1853), maggior ispiratore e fondatore delle Conferenze di San Vincenzo de Paoli, fu docente universitario negli anni in cui la Francia era laboratorio della società moderna. Considerato precursore della dottrina sociale della Chiesa e beatificato da Giovanni Paolo II nel1997, è tuttavia un personaggio poco noto al vasto pubblico, anche in ambito cattolico.Le celebrazioni del bicentenario della sua nascita hanno risvegliato nuovo interesse per la sua figura; per questo motivo la Società di San Vincenzo de Paoli ha voluto pubblicare una raccolta di lettere tratte dal suo epistolario. Come amava sottolineare la moglie Amélie, «è leggendo le lettere di Federico che lo potrete conoscere, meglio che leggendone le varie biografie»; sono state allora scelte 100 lettere, tra le quasi 1500 ritrovate e pubblicate in Francia negli ultimi anni. Un cammino per riscoprire la sua «Sete di infinito» e ripercorrere, attraverso i suoi scritti, la vita di un uomo di fede, dedicata alla carità in ogni ambito: nel lavoro, nell'università, nella società, nella politica, nella famiglia.Lettere scelte è il primo dei tre volumi dedicati agli scritti di Federico Ozanam.
