L'autore si sofferma sul clima violento da tempo di guerra, con cui la pubblica opinione e gran parte dei mass media hanno pesantemente condizionato lo svolgimento dei procedimenti, rendendo difficile l'opera dei magistrati e la ricerca di una giustizia non condizionata politicamente. Tratta anche il giustizialismo che ha limitato la lotta dello Stato contro il terrorismo, la mafia e la corruzione. "Un po' di verità per Bettino": è questo l'obiettivo del libro. E la conclusione è che Craxi è stato ingiustamente condannato e merita di riprendere il suo posto nella storia d'Italia.
