HOW TO MAKE AN ORIGINAL VANS CLASSIC

1. Making a Vans shoe the original way starts in the stitching room, where rolls of fabric are die cut in a “clicker” into the various shapes of the shoe upper

2. A thin rubber toe cap is pressed to the inside of the canvas vamp

3. Fabric pieces are sewn together

4. Collars are placed

5. Foam is inserted, collars are turned

6. Outside heel counter is placed

7. Inside counter is sewn in

8. Vamping, or sewing in the vamp, takes place

9. Work moves to the mill room where outsoles are molded from rubber

10. Foxing tape, friction tape, bumpers, and heel tabs are cut

11. Work moves to the fitting room where sponge, arch, and rag or insoles are assembled

12. Work moves to the making room where uppers are affixed to insoles on lasts and top cemented

13. The making lines begin assembly. Uppers are side lasted to the insole and a bedlasting machine seals the toe and heel

14. The shoes are dipped in latex, giving a set line to place all the rubber parts, then dry for thirty minutes

15. The first foxing with foxing stripes are placed

16. Outsoles are pressed on

17. Friction tape is applied, then the toe bumper and labels
