Screwed
About this book
A gripping portrait of a destructive friendship between two women who push themselves to their limits.
Luce and Charlene are thirty-something binge-drinking soulmates. Clocking in after a heavy night out on the tiles, they pop caffeine pills and down miniatures on the factory floor, boasting about last night's sexual conquests.
When you're living for today, who cares about tomorrow?
Kathryn O'Reilly's play Screwed premiered at Theatre503, London, in 2016, in a co-production with KOR.

Information
Prologue
Dance music. We see a short burst of club. Alive, vibrant, full. LUCE and CHARLENE dancing hard, provocatively, possibly on podiums.
One
7 a.m. Early morning. A metal factory. Somewhere in West Byfleet, Surrey.
The steel shutters are up allowing us to see directly into the small, grey and cold factory floor. A distant but consistent noise of machinery from somewhere else in the factory. Over that, in this area of the factory, we hear a radio playing club music.
It is the morning after the night before. LUCE and CHARLENE, soulmates, and codependent, still in their clubbing gear underneath their work aprons. Hard-drinking survivors. Worse for wear, but this is standard. They are struggling but with a celebratory feel. They love the fact they can go out all night, get smashed, and come into work the next morning; they live and work to go out.
They are stood at their stations on the line, working. Putting plastic screw fittings on both ends of braided flexible hosing. They have been doing this job for so long, they could do it in their sleep.
There is a temp who they are teaching what to do.
