About this book
'It's England really, isn't it?
A climate without cloud and rain isn't honest.'
In the ruins of a garden in rural England, in a house which was once a home, one woman searches for seeds of hope.

Information
ACT ONE
Late February.
Albion is a garden, now mostly left to ruin, attached to a house in Oxfordshire. There are many âroomsâ in the garden, but the play is set in the Red Garden.
Music fadesâŚ
The garden has been left to ruin for many years. The outline of the beds is still there with bricks, and the weeds have now been cleared, but there are few plants. An oak tree stands in the corner.
MATTHEW, the gardener, enters with his wife CHERYL, mid-conversation.
MATTHEW | Iâm saying be more careful is all! I donât see how you could have got confused.
CHERYL | Theyâre right next to each other.
MATTHEW | Theyâre different colours.
CHERYL | They should make the hole a different size.
A moment. | ||
MATTHEW | You called the RAC.
CHERYL | I did. Took forty minutes. Not so bad. It was a man with an accent who came.
MATTHEW | What accent? | |
CHERYL | I donât know. | |
MATTHEW | â we talking Bristol, Scottish?
CHERYL | No no. European.
MATTHEW | Polish? Czech?
CHERYL | I donât know the difference between those ones.
MATTHEW | Was he good? | |
CHERYL | Oh very good. | |
So this is where she wants to start.
MATTHEW | Yep. Now itâs cleared. She wants to get planting.
CHERYL | Whatâs she like then?
MATTHEW | Youâve met her.
CHERYL | Youâve spent more time. Sheâs about the garden rather than the house.
MATTHEW | Sheâs formidable. Attractive. For her age. Bone structure. Good figure.
CHERYL | Yes alri... |
