Daily Routines

Week 1 Teacher Notes

Monday: What Doesn’t Belong?

When introducing this routine, the teacher should work with the students to solve each box and then decide which one doesn’t belong.

Tuesday: Alike and Different

Students should be able to discuss how the shapes are alike with sides that are closed, how they have points (vertices) and how the sides are straight. We want to focus on the attributes of the shapes.

Wednesday: Number Bond It!

This is an opportunity for students to build on their work on composing and decomposing numbers to 10.

Thursday: Number Talk

This is an opportunity for students to work on adding 1 to a number. They should talk about how you just have to think of the next number.

Friday: What’s the Story?

You want students to act this out and then discuss the pictures.

In this routine students are describing the number 16. They have to discuss what it is and what it isn’t. For example, it is a 2 digit number. It is greater than 15. It isn’t a 1 digit number. It isn’t greater than 20.

Wednesday: Number Line It!

Students have to discuss how to order and plot the numbers on the number line from least to greatest.

Thursday: Number Talk

Students work on adding numbers within 10. They have to discuss whether or not they did it in their head, with a drawing or on paper.

Friday: Model It

Students act out the word problems and then discuss the pictorial representation.
