Counting boxes
Resources you will need
• Ten boxes of different sizes
• Numbers 1 to 10
• Dots in groups of 1, 2, 3 … 10 drawn on paper
• Sellotape
• Buttons, compare bears or similar items to group into the boxes
Aim/concept
• To begin to experiment with numbers and counting
Process
• Discuss with the children the items you have collected.
• Look at the numbers 1 to 10. Count them with the children.
• Look at the groups of dots and encourage the children to match the dots to the numbers.
• Talk about the sizes of the boxes and comparing them.
• Explain to the children that they are going to stick the numbers on to the tops of the boxes and the dots to the same value on to the bottoms. When they have done this the children will...
