Uno de los coordinadores de este libro —Mauricio Beuchot Puente, filósofo mexicano de amplio reconocimiento internacional— escribe en el capítulo de su autoría una frase que ofrece el sentido básico de lo expuesto en esta publicación, al decir: "Así como Elizabeth Anscombe hizo en 1958 un llamado a revivir la noción de virtud para la ética, es decir, para tener una ética de virtudes (1958: 1 ss), también se ha hecho en la epistemología, llamando a revivir las virtudes epistémicas para tener una epistemología de virtudes. De este modo la virtud ha vuelto, no solamente como probidad moral, sino también como virtud cognoscitiva (Valdés 2011:180)". Razón por la cual la epistemología que leerá en este volumen contribuye convincente y reposadamente a aumentar nuestra capacidad cognitiva, buscando un pensamiento completo y útil para la vida.
