Durante mucho tiempo, se pensó que conocimiento era solo el de la ciencia y que los otros agentes sociales debían recibirlo y utilizarlo en su vida cotidiana, muchas veces sin cuestionarlo. El ejercicio de los semilleros de investigación parte de la idea de construcción de conocimiento y de aprendizaje desde la práctica, pues no se trata de enseñar a investigar desde la idea tradicional de la docencia, sino que se busca involucrar a los estudiantes en procesos de investigación que les permitan enfrentar los retos cotidianos que encara un investigador en un campo del saber específico.
