Este libro explora el proceso de construcción del concepto de "fiebre amarilla selvática" y e rol que los investigadores colombianos desempeñaron en dicho descubrimiento. Está dirigido al público general y a los académicos de las ciencias humanas y de la salud interesados en la historia, y en la historia de la medicina, de la salud pública y de la ciencia, en particular, así como a los formuladores de políticas públicas y tomadores de decisiones en salud. Apoyado en la epistemología histórica, la sociología del conocimiento y la sociología política, el libro presenta las controversias conceptuales y técnicas en el campo de la fiebre amarilla desde finales del siglo XIX en Colombia hasta la consolidación del concepto de fiebre amarilla selvática en la década del 30 del siglo XX. Se explora cómo la Fundación Rockefeller ignoró los análisis de los médicos nacionales que hipotetizaron la presencia de fiebre amarilla rural y, apoyada en su poder económico, político y científico, se llevó la prioridad del descubrimiento de dicho concepto. Se muestra la complejidad de la actuación de los actores sociopolíticos involucrados, así como las asimetrías de poder que explican el control del capital simbólico de los investigadores norteamericanos sobre el campo de la fiebre amarilla, por encima de los actores periféricos.
