A delightful story in which the community pulls together to try to get rid of a swarm of wasps – the noisy, nasty nuisance. Written in amusing rhyme with busy and funny illustrations. A book which is great fun.

Weaving a checked tablecloth

Resources you will need

Large rolls of two different coloured papers (green and white look good together)
A small saw or old bread knife
Adhesive tape and stapler

To develop hand-eye co-ordination by weaving.

ELG Handle tools, objects, construction and malleable materials safely and with increasing control

Process

Using the saw or knife cut the coloured paper into strips about 6cm wide.
Cut out a large square of white paper and fold it in half and show the children how to cut slits across the folded paper, starting from the fold, leaving a 6cm border at the open edge.
Open out the paper and support the children in weaving, helping them fix the ends securely.
Use as part of a wall display linked to the story, or for a table display for dolls or other small world play.
