Gli apparati informativi riproducono quelli pubblicati nell'edizione dei "Meridiani".Composte nella temperie autobiografica delle prime Faville (luglio 1911 - settembre 1914), e anch'esse pubblicate sul "Corriere della Sera", tra l'aprile e il maggio del 1912, le pagine raccolte in questo volume costituiscono il vertice della prosa dannunziana che la consuetudine critica definisce "notturna". Il libro è improntato al ricordo e alla commemorazione di Giovanni Pascoli e di Adolphe Bermond (locatore dello chalet di Arcachon dove d'Annunzio visse in esilio), entrambi morti nel 1912 e protagonisti di una rievocazione in cui gli elementi autobiografici si confondono con le tessere della letterarietà e della mitografia religiosa.
